Some notes about the Island Park seasons and attractions:
Pelican Point is located in Island Park, Idaho which is at an elevation of 6293 feet making it the highest city in Idaho. It also boasts the longest main street in the world at 33 miles. These features along with its world renowned trout fishing and many natural wonders makes it a great place to launch your Yellowstone adventure! Yellowstone Park is a scenic 28 mile (35 minute) drive from Pelican Point.
Island Park has four beautiful distinct seasons. Since the winter season is quite cold, Pelican Point is not available during the winter. The available dates are from May 15 through October 15.
Here are some activities, interesting sights and weather conditions common to the different seasons:
MAY 15 TO JUNE 15
• Yellowstone will be waking up from a long winters rest. Most of the roads will be opened by May 15 making it a prime time to visit. There will be fewer crowds and the animals will be active. The weather could be cool so be prepared with warm clothes, just to be comfortable.
• Island Park/Yellowstone weather will be variable with daytime temps being sixty to eighty. This is a great time to visit.
• This is also prime time for fishing the Henry's Fork and at Henry's Lake.
JUNE 15 TO AUG 15
• This is a popular time to visit Yellowstone as well as Island Park. It is warm and absolutely beautiful. Idahoans looks forward to this time of the year. Weather is nearly perfect and days are long. The lake is beautiful and water sports are popular. You can enjoy evenings barbecuing on the grill, roasting hot dogs and s'mores over the fire pit, or just lounging on the deck gazing at the stars.
• Fishing is also one of the things that makes this time of the year special.
• A highlight of the summer is the July 4th fireworks display which you can watch from the lawn, patio, or dock.
• Summer is the time to drive to the top Sawtelle Peak at 9675 feet. From the summit, you get stunning views of the entire area including Henry's Lake and Yellowstone Park away to the East.
AUG 15 TO SEP 15
• If you are visiting for peace and serenity, in my opinion, this is the best time to come. School is back in session and Yellowstone is less congested. Fall colors are beginning and the temperatures are more comfortable. Prices are lower making it a great time for couples.
• Water sports are very popular with less lake activity. The lake is calm and great for canoeing, kayaking and fishing.
SEP 15 TO OCT 15
• This is an interesting time to visit Yellowstone since the animals are active and preparing for winter. Fall colors will be at their peak and the crowds will be gone. This is the time that most seniors choose to visit. One huge advantage is our discounted rates.
I hope this information will help you select the best season for your visit to Pelican Point and Yellowstone National Park. It would be my pleasure to host you.
I might add that my wife and I are the proud owners and managers of Pelican Point. It is our only short term rental. We take great care to make everything awesome for our guests. Our goal is to ensure you have a special and memorable experience!
